
What
you’ll need to take & remember…
Comfortable
clothes.
Ski
clothing and equipment (or you can hire equipment).
Ensure
equipment is suitable, well maintained and well adjusted. Ensure
children wear protective helmets.
Sunscreen and sunglasses.
After
sun cream.
Lots
of layers-fleece is ideal, avoid cotton, and a breathable, waterproof
top layer, Gore-Tex is ideal.
Warm
hats and a good pair of gloves.
Goggles
(yellow lenses work well).
Bathing suit.
Camera.
Cash/travellers cheques.
Paracetamol/plasters etc or small first aid kit.
Take out good, comprehensive insurance –EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!
If going to a resort of high altitude drink plenty of water to help
you adjust to the conditions. Also eat balanced food.
Look out for the symptoms of acute mountain symptoms such as headaches,
dizziness, fainting and difficulties with breathing. Seek medical
advice if you are concerned.
Check the weather and be aware of any changes – weather can
be very unpredictable.
Ask for and keep a map of the slopes with you - Study piste maps
and be familiar with surroundings.
Remember people skiing in front of you have right of way.
Observe, be aware and respect rules of the resort, slopes and ski
lift stations.
Be cautious around others and when stopping be aware of any hidden
coves that you may have stopped in as you could be endangering yourself,
make sure are can be seen and that you are not causing obstruction.
Also keep away from the lift mounts to avoid injury.
Never ski under the influence of alcohol.
Do not leave marked slopes without obtaining necessary information
on dangers (e.g. avalanches, routes) and go with a mountain professional.
Stick to your level of ability until you are confident that you
are ready to progress to the next stage.
